President of the International Association for the Study of Pain
Professor Andrew Rice MB BS, MD, FRSB, FRCP, FRCA, FFPMCAI (Hon) is Professor of Pain Research at Imperial College London, where he leads the Pain Research Group. He is currently President of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).
Professor Rice’s research focuses on translational and clinical research in neuropathic pain arising from infection, diabetes, nerve trauma and non-freezing cold injury. His work spans pre-clinical innovation, experimental design and evidence synthesis, as well as deep clinical phenotyping of patients to support precision medicine and clinical trials.
He has authored approximately 250 publications in leading journals including PAIN, The Lancet, Brain, The Lancet Neurology, Nature Methods, NEJM and BMJ, and is the founding editor of the multi-volume Textbook of Clinical Pain Management. His research has been supported by major international funders including the European Commission, Wellcome Trust and UK Research and Innovation.
Professor Rice has held numerous international leadership roles, including Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee for the 18th World Congress on Pain and leadership positions within IASP taskforces and special interest groups. He has received multiple honours for his contributions to pain research and clinical practice, and until recently delivered a specialist NHS service for patients with complex neuropathic pain.

This special event is co-hosted by the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Better Health Outcomes for Compensable Injury, UQ's RECOVER Injury Research Centre, and the UQ Centre for Innovation in Pain and Health Research (CIPHeR).
The seminar is part of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Better Health Outcomes for Compensable Injury’s CREATE Seminar Series. The CRE Research and Translation Training Scheme (CREATE) provides enhanced mentoring and career development for the next generation of researchers.
