Wanted: Consumer representatives with a lived experience of a compulsory third-party claim in QLD.

Help us make a difference.

It is well known that Australia has a complex maze of systems providing rehabilitation and income support for people with an injury. Research conducted at the University of Queensland over many years has found that these systems can be difficult to navigate for the injured person, their families and often their health providers. Sustaining an injury in a road traffic crash sometimes creates anxiety and questions about rehabilitation, finances and employment, entitlements and responsibilities.

At UQ, we want to help people with an injury, their family and other interested parties understand the different compensation schemes, eligibility or not for the different schemes and who to contact for further information.

If you have sustained a road traffic crash, please consider being a consumer representative on an advisory panel with UQ researchers to develop resources to help people with injuries, their families and others understand the compensation system in Queensland.

What is involved? Time commitment will vary but we anticipate it will be about 2-3 hours for the next 2 months. You will be asked to provide verbal and /or written input into the development and design of resources and then review various drafts of these resources.

Will I get paid? Yes, you will be reimbursed $50 per hour of your time to attend meetings and review material forwarded for your input.

Criteria for eligibility: You or someone close to you has had a recent experience (within the last 3 years) with a compulsory third party claim in QLD, but your claim must be finalised. You must be comfortable expressing your ideas in an individual or small group setting.

For any enquiries or if you would like to get involved, contact Dr Venerina Johnston at v.johnston@uq.edu.au
