The Technology-enabled rehabilitation team hosts two international visitors

3 June 2024

RECOVER is honoured to host two international visitors – meet Magnus and Pablo!

Hello! My name is Magnus Bye Blumenfeld. I am a visiting Master's student from Denmark.

I reached out to RECOVER to get insight into a world-leading telehealth research centre and learn how they develop innovative telehealth solutions to help patients. At RECOVER, I have been working on two projects: 1) Driving simulators to help people with traumatic brain injury get back to driving and 2) Virtual reality mindfulness for chronic lower back pain.

Coming from Denmark, I was attracted to learn how Australia delivers healthcare to its people in remote and rural areas.

What have you enjoyed the most about your time here?

I have enjoyed my stay at RECOVER, meeting brilliant people and learning much about how to help patients through innovative telehealth—my time here allowed me to understand better the importance of developing innovative telehealth ideas alongside consumers.

Admittedly, I also wanted to see so many different places in Queensland and all around Australia, and I have loved my time sightseeing and exploring.

What is your favourite place to visit?

I love my early morning coffees on the Brisbane River and swimming in the nice waters on the Sunshine Coast. One of my favourite moments was when I arrived in the Daintree rainforest, and a male Cassowary and his chick emerged just 2 meters away from me and gracefully passed me.

Hello! My name is Pablo Molina García. I am from Granada, in the south of Spain. I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital. My main research is Digital Rehabilitation with mobile health (mHealth) interventions. We are developing and testing mHealth interventions to recover older adults with osteoporotic hip fractures and osteoarthritis.

At the RECOVER Injury Research Centre, you are world leaders in telerehabilitation. We are experiencing a revolution in digital health worldwide, but you have been researching this area for many years already. My goal is to learn from your experience in musculoskeletal telerehabilitation and implement therapies in Spain. I received a José Castillejo fellowship from my country for that purpose. Of course, I aim to contribute my experience and bring new ideas to the group, especially in mHealth interventions. It would be ideal to collaborate to apply for common projects and create new telerehabilitation systems with real implementation in Europe and Australia.

What have you enjoyed the most about your time here?

Here, I am lucky to live on the other side of the world. That's why what I enjoy the most is exploring new places around here in my free time. The weather in Brisbane is really nice, and it allows for a lot of outdoor activities. I love exercising and doing activities outside, and I feel like I fit in perfectly in this city. I also like the calm atmosphere, even though it's a big city. The Aussie culture seems like a perfect mix of open, friendly and respectful, and I love it.

What has been your favourite place to visit?

In Brisbane, I love the atmosphere of South Bank, and I think my favourite neighbourhood is West End, with its parks by the river. So far, I've really enjoyed discovering the remote Moreton Island and Tamborine National Park. The views of the Gold Coast from Burleigh Heads are one of my highlights. I'm open to more recommendations on places to visit!
